Tollymore And Castlewellan Lake with the Outdoor Partnership

17/01/2025

Supporting access to our forest parks is a really important step in Supporting Adventure for All. People with disabilities are consistently underrepresented in our outdoor places. After an earlier meeting at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre we joined the Outdoor Partnership and Disability Sport NI with the GM4X Paratreker for a 2.4 mile trek  around the Lake. In what felt like very spring like conditions we headed off around Castlewellan Forest Park. This trail, graded easy is an ideal introductory trek with lake views the whole way round and apart from a wee hill at the Western End of the Lake, its mainly Flat.

Naomi, commented that "She loved every minute of it" On it's 29" Mountain Bike wheels the Paratrecker rolls over thsi type of graded gravel track and its rider experiences none of the hard bumping associated with a conventional wheelchair. To read more details on the Paratreker visit their site https://www.gm4x.co.uk/</p> If you're interested in trialing one of these chairs for your adventure centre or visitor destination please get in touch.
